Fremont YSC Goes International

During the month of February, Fremont YSC Executive and Sporting Director travelled to Japan to study the Japanese Football Association structure and methodology, while also visiting J-League Academies throughout the country.

While many countries have been travelled in pursuit of greater knowledge and studying soccer around the world, the Japanese culture was unique in the way it’s ingrained into the football culture and it’s way of playing.

See the following observations on how Japan integrates it’s cultural identity into it’s football experience – JFA Observations

Congratulations to Fremont YSC Coaches On Completing the USSF D License

During the month of January and February, Fremont YSC coaches have been engaged in furthering their education through participation on the USSF D License.

Congratulations to Krupa, Nagib, Johnny, Lamiae, and Marcus.

The USSF D license is a 9 week blended course of online discussion and lectures, with 4 in-person coaching days; which includes individual meetings with a mentor and both individual and group assignment. The objectives of the D License are as follows –

  • Create a positive and safe environment that encourages respect, inclusivity and belonging
  • Plan and design a training session
  • Implement activities and facilitate player learning
  • Organize the game day environment

2013/14 Boys Participate in First Futsal State Cup

February marked the first participation of a Fremont YSC team in the NorCal Futsal State Cup.

It was an incredibly special moment for the club, with a Futsal team being the ambition of late Fremont YSC coach, Jesus. In his memory, the team played under the name JAG, the initials of Jesus Allan Gonzalez.

Fremont YSC Foundation Phase Director, Nick Zuch, has been a big advocate of Futsal, recognizing the benefits of Futsal when integrated into a football curriculum for player development. Nick, with his extensive experience and education in Futsal took the 2013/14 Boys to Sacramento for the State Cup event, in what was a great experience for everyone.

How Gratitude Impacts Development

Holistic development should be the objective for all youth development programs. While not all humans will be a soccer player, all soccer players are human; we must not lose sight of the importance of coaching the person, not just the player.

The relationships we build and rely upon in the youth sports experience have a big effect on the development of the individual, and the coach plays a vital role in creating the environment where we can all flourish.

“I always ask parents, if you think back to prior to your first child being born, if you had a pact that said that your child was going to be healthy at birth, was going to be in a loving, nurturing environment, and someday would be with friends, kicking a ball around under the sunshine on a field anywhere in the world, would you take that pact pre-birth?”

“The only way we forget that is to put emphasis where it need not be placed, which is on a win or a loss or A team or D1 or D3. All of this status nonsense has nothing to do with that initial pact. Healthy children enjoying sport for as long as possible in a safe and secure environment. If we maintain that focus, our why, to promote learning and joy, those are the parents that are most grateful for the experience, those are kids that feel that energy, and those are the kids that stay involved in a productive life.”

Shaping a More Powerful Environment

Dr. Jerry Lynch, brings a refreshing, and thought-provoking perspective that calls us to dig deeper to find our best selves. He works with many top names and programs in professional and collegiate sports, and has many best selling books. Jerry balances Western thought with Eastern philosophy in a very provoking and powerful way.

“We can’t control the outcome of a game we can’t cannot control how our kids are going to play or how they’re going to feel about the game; we can’t control these things, but we can control the influence that we have. So therefore, having said that, on going to the game, the conversations, we can’t focus much more on why this is going to be a fun day and why do you think it’s going to be fun and why do you love soccer and talk about the positive reasons, why we’re even driving from home to this field to play a game? When you and I both know it’s not for a victory, it’s not so that they become athletes who maybe will catch the next train to Stamford, or Duke or wherever, Harvard. It’s about character building and character building begins in an environment that really feels good.
